About Us

Hurst Primary School is situated on a large campus in the middle of a pleasant residential area in Bexley. We are a well-established and caring school.  The building is set in beautiful grounds with three playgrounds and two large fields. The Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 school buildings were built in 1993 and the classrooms are spacious and well equipped, all leading on to the playground.  One wing is used by the Foundation Stage; the nursery and the three reception classes are situated here, together with a shared area.  In the summer of 2007 the Foundation Stage outdoor learning environment was extended and substantially improved, we believe our first class facilities give the children a secure, comfortable and welcoming start to school.A new building for Years 5 and 6 opened in September 2001 and comprises 6 classrooms, a large shared area and new toilet facilities.  In 2003 a spacious library was built and in April 2006 every classroom, from nursery to Year 6 had an interactive whiteboard installed. Hurst School is well resourced and places great emphasis on language and reading as a means of equipping children to make the best use of their learning.  In particular we believe in the importance of good quality reading material and provide a wide variety of attractive and worthwhile books in our classrooms and libraries to interest and motivate our pupils.  Our new library opened in 2003, where children may borrow books using a state of the art computerised thumbprint recognition system. Parents at Hurst Primary School are supportive and it is the policy of the school to do everything possible to make them welcome at the school and help them to realise that they play an important part in the development of their children. There is a thriving Parents' Association that provides a variety of social functions and fund raising activities during the year.  The strength of such an Association depends very largely on the support of new parents.  Parental help in the school is encouraged and very much appreciated. At the beginning of each academic year the school, parents and children are asked to sign a home-school agreement which sets out expectations and responsibilities of all parties. Every effort has been made to ensure that these particulars are correct at the time of publication.
