SCHOOL SESSIONSFOUNDATION STAGE AND KEY STAGE ONE: 8.50 am – 12.00 noon 1.00 pm - 3.15 pm KEY STAGE TWO: 8.50 am - 12.00 noon 1.00 pm - 3.15 pm
During a normal school week the time spent on teaching, including Religious Education but excluding the statutory daily act of collective worship, registration and breaks, is 21 hours 15 minutes at Key Stage 1 and 23 hours 30 minutes at Key Stage 2. THE PUPILS Hurst School has a published intake of 90 pupils per year and a standard number of 630. In the event of over subscription to the school then the Authority's admissions procedure will be followed to prioritise applications. A copy of this policy can be obtained from school. On entry to the school pupils are put into classes according to their age and the month of their birth, and on occasions it may be necessary to have mixed age classes. Within the class structure teaching is carried out with individuals, with small groups or with the whole class, as appropriate. The aim is to differentiate the work given to the needs, abilities and aptitudes of each child. PARENTS Hurst Primary School attaches great importance to maintaining positive and regular contact between itself and parents. Children cannot be educated effectively or develop socially and emotionally unless home and school are working together towards common goals. There is a home/school contract and policy and a contact book is used between school and home. The Head Teacher is prepared to see parents at most times but would appreciate it if parents would write or telephone for an appointment. Two open evenings per year enable parents to come to the school to consult with teachers about their children's education. These are normally held in the autumn and spring terms. A written report is sent to the parents at the end of each school year and parents have the opportunity to discuss the report with the class teacher. Parents will be contacted should additional meetings become necessary. In addition, information evenings for parents are held regarding the curriculum and residential educational visits as the need arises. PASTORAL CARE Pastoral care is the responsibility of the whole staff but the first point of contact should be with the class teacher. The school endeavours to maintain close contact with parents so that it can work in co-operation should any problem arise.
