INCLUSION

All pupils are given the same opportunities to learn.  Pupils are regularly assessed within the school and those who are identified as having a special educational need receive extra help according to the identified need.

The class teacher will be responsible for providing most of the special educational needs teaching but some of the pupils may occasionally be withdrawn from their classes for help on an individual or group basis.

When necessary, expert help from external sources may be called upon. If a child is identified with special educational needs then parents are informed.  Parents and children are encouraged to discuss the plans and provision put in place to address the identified needs.

The needs of pupils with English as an additional language are met with support and advice from external agencies.

Pupils who are deemed to be gifted and talented in one or more areas of the school curriculum, are identified and placed on a school register and their progress monitored.  Strategies to cater for the educational needs of these children might involve:

·         Covering objectives for older year groups

·         Grouping children within year groups

·         Grouping within a class

·         Planning for greater depth and breadth of learning within the objectives of a year group
