All children attending Hurst School are expected to adhere to the school policy on uniform. The individual items may be obtained from a variety of outlets including the major retail stores. Green sweatshirts with the school emblem, which are both attractive and warm to wear, can be purchased via the school. The sweatshirts should be worn with a shirt or blouse. All clothing and footwear should be clearly marked with the child's name. Boys Grey trousers, white polo shirt, green school sweatshirt, grey socks. In summer, grey shorts may be worn. Girls White polo shirt, grey skirt or trousers, green school sweatshirt, white socks. Green, grey or white tights may be worn in cold weather but these must be replaced with socks for PE and games. In summer, dresses in any shade of green, either patterned or plain, may be worn. Shoes All children should wear sensible flat-heeled shoes (not trainers) in dark colours. If boots are worn in cold or wet weather, they must be replaced by shoes in school. In summer, light sandals may be worn. Hats/Caps Pupils must not bring hats or caps to school. School hats may be purchased from the school office, to be worn in very warm weather. PE/Games Printed white tee shirts with the school emblem and shorts in the house colours should be purchased via the school shop. Indoor PE is done in bare feet. In the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children require plimsolls for outdoor PE, in Key Stage 2 low cut trainers or plimsolls are worn for outdoor games. Tracksuits may be worn outdoors in cold weather. Long hair must be tied back with a band for PE and games. Artwork In the Foundation Stage aprons are provided for artwork. For older children, an old shirt with the sleeves cut to a suitable length is ideal for art and craft activities. Jewellery Watches may be worn in Key Stage 2. Children with pierced ears are allowed to wear small stud earrings only and these must be removed or covered for PE and games, and removed for swimming. Teachers are not allowed to help with removing or replacing earrings. No other jewellery is permitted. Lost Property If clothing is named it makes the task of returning such items to the rightful owner much easier. Lost property that is not named will be kept for one week only and if not claimed by that time such items will be disposed of or sold with the school's nearly new uniform. Nearly New School Uniform Nearly new school uniform, at very reasonable prices, is on sale in the school.
