Year 6 Windmill Hill letter 4 Nov 09

4 November 2009

Dear Parents

Re        Year 6 Residential Visit 2010

We have booked the residential visit for the spring term for our Year 6 children.  This year we are going to Windmill Hill, near Hailsham, East Sussex.  Once again, the trip has an outdoor education focus and we will be spending 2 nights at this new venue which opened in the Spring of 2009.  There are enough places for all pupils in Year 6 and I sincerely hope that the vast majority if not all of the children will be able to come.

We will arrive on Monday 29 March 2010 and spend 2 nights in wooden en suite lodges.  A range of outdoor activities all taken by fully qualified instructors will include some of the following:  aeroball, archery, BMX skills, bridge building, canoeing, challenge course, fencing, giant swing, initiative exercises, jacob’s ladder, rifle shooting, sensory trail, trapeze, zip wire, kayaking, abseiling, orienteering, rope activities and indoor climbing.  I am certain that the children will have an excellent experience with the emphasis being on problem solving and team work.

Windmill Hill is situated on a very secure site with new facilities.  The centrally heated lodges sleep 6 and are in blocks with teachers’ accommodation at the ends.  Meals are taken in an attractive dining room and the ‘nut free’ kitchen provides a choice of menu and a salad bar.  Fruit is available at all meals.

There will be a parents’ meeting for all those interested on Tuesday 10 November at 7 pm.

The full price of our visit, inclusive of transport and all meals will be £150.  Parents are asked to book a place for their child by paying a £30.00 (non-refundable) deposit, which should be sent into school with the slip attached, by 27 November 2009.  Cheques should be made payable to Hurst Primary School.

We would like all of Year 6 children to be part of the visit and do not want any pupil to be excluded because of genuine financial hardship.  If parents would like to discuss assistance with payment they can approach me in strict confidence.

As with any trip of this nature, it is very important that we can rely on high standards of behaviour from those children we are taking.  For this reason we retain the right to exclude children from the experience if their behaviour record in school gives serious cause for concern.

A link to the PGL website is to be found on the school website and parents may wish to access this to find out a bit more about the trip.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Linnett

Head Teacher
